IRS phone help

Prepare before calling the IRS about a refund delay.

A better call starts with clear notes, official-source checks, and a specific question.

Before calling

  1. Check WMR and, if available, account transcripts.
  2. Write down filing date, accepted date, tax year, transcript codes, notices received, and any deadlines.
  3. Have identity verification information ready, but do not share it publicly on RefundHub.
  4. Use official IRS pages for phone numbers and current operating details.

Questions to ask

  • Is there a specific notice, verification step, or missing information request on the account?
  • Is the account in review, and is there a timeframe or next action?
  • Was the refund issued, offset, mailed, returned by a bank, or held?
  • Is an appointment, Taxpayer Advocate Service contact, or written response appropriate?

After the call

Post a summary without private details: call date, department reached, general explanation, next step, and deadline. This helps other members compare patterns without exposing personal data.

RefundHub cannot call the IRS for you, access your account, or verify an official agent. Use only official contact sources.
