This guide separates three phrases that get mixed together during filing season.

Quick take
  • Submitted or transmitted means the software sent the return.
  • Accepted means the IRS accepted the electronic submission for processing.
  • Approved means the IRS has approved a refund in WMR or issued refund movement on transcript.
  • Bank funded means a bank product or financial institution is handling money after IRS approval.
