State refunds

State refund timelines are separate from federal refund timelines.

Each state has its own portal language, review process, identity checks, offsets, and payment timing.

What makes state refunds different

A federal refund update does not guarantee a state refund update. State agencies can process on different calendars and may request separate verification or documentation.

What to include in a state refund post

  1. State name and filing date.
  2. State portal message, rewritten without private details.
  3. Whether state ID verification or a letter was received.
  4. Whether the refund is direct deposit or check.
  5. Any offset or balance-due message.

State portal safety

Do not post screenshots containing full names, addresses, SSNs, refund amounts tied to identity, or state portal confirmation numbers.

Use the state forum to compare portal wording and timing with people from the same state.
