Reference code safety: what to post and what to hide

WMR reference codes can be useful for pattern matching, but screenshots often contain too much private data.

Quick take
  • Post the code and exact public wording.
  • Hide refund amount, SSN, address, phone, email, and any barcode or QR code.
  • Tell members what you already tried: WMR, IRS2Go, transcript, online account, letter.
  • Move identity letters to the IRS Letters forum.
